St. Cloud, a small family-oriented town outside of Orlando, has 2.5 miles of beautiful lakefront and an extensive parks program.  A wonderful historic downtown with character,  adjacent to the Florida Turnpike, is making travel to Orlando and the International Airport only a 25 minute drive away.  One of only two Osceola County incorporated cities, St. Cloud is nine miles east of Kissimmee, and approximately 45 miles west of the City of Melbourne on the Atlantic Coast.   St. Cloud's roots include a northern land baron, who failed in an attempt to site a sugarcane plantation nearby, while the city's birth was primarily due to an early land sale organized by Union Army Civil War Veterans.   In an effort to preserve and enhance the quality of life and opportunities for its citizens, the St. Cloud City Council unanimously approved the expansion of the “Cyber Spot” to cover the entire city, 15 square miles (39 square kilometers). The Cyber Spot which has been up and running since July 1, 2004 in a 12 block area of the historic downtown as a pilot program, will expand to include the entire city by fall 2005. The Cyber Spot provides wireless Internet service at speeds in excess of 1 Mbps (symmetrical) and will be provided free of charge to the public. Some major changes over the past few years has been made with the construction of a new Senior Center/Evacuation Center and a new City Hall.  Currently the marina  is in the process of expanding to host 140 boat slips with the construction of a lakefront eatery and banquet rental facility.  The project is on schedule and the marina should be completed the end of 2005 and the marina building by February 2006.
