| The
City of Kissimmee was originally a small trading
post on the northern bank of Lake Tohopekaliga
known as the community of "Allendale".
After the Civil War this area of real estate
was included in a purchase of 4,000,000 acres
of marshland and plains by Mr. Hamilton Disston,
the owner of Disston Saw Company in Philadelphia.
The sale price for the real estate totaled $1
million or $.25 per acre! The infusion of $1
million to the State of Florida purportedly
rescued the State from financial disaster. The
downtown area sprang up around the Osceola County
Courthouse and continued to grow as more people
moved in and trade prospered. If you'd
like to relocate to Kissimmee, or any other
suburban Orlando community, give Realtors John
Hambrick or Angela Chapman a call now or fill
out the HomeSearch form.

City
leaders wanted to encourage home growth through
the attraction of retirees into the area during
the 1950's. The next period of growth
came in the 1970's with the opening of the Walt
Disney World resort area located approximately
7 miles west of the City. Since Disney's debut
in 1971, the population doubled from 7,500 to
15,000 in 1980. The population doubled again
during the decade of the 80's to 30,000. Currently,
47,814 people reside on real estate within the
corporate limits of the City. Approximately
130,000 people live in Osceola
County.
In addition to such international attractions
such as Sea World, Universal Studios, and
Disney World, the area boasts several corporate
headquarters and is the home of the Houston
Astros spring training facility at Osceola
County Stadium and the Atlanta Braves spring
training facility at Cracker Jack Stadium.
