Umatilla High School is expanding their School-To-Work offerings by restructuring the existing departmental concept into career clusters with integrated curricula that support work-related applications.

UHS's goals are as follows:

All students in grades 10-12 have been places in one of the five career clusters (majors) currently in place at Umati/em>High for the 1998-99 school year. Upon registration in the spring, each student requested placement in the cluster that related to his/her career interest area.

The clusters (majors) are:

  • Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources
  • Academy of Public Service
  • Health, Fitness and Recreation
  • Business
  • The People Connection
  • The goals of the clusters are to:

  • explore careers and options;
  • develop valuable workplace skills;
  • promote positive atitudes and work ethics;
  • create relevance between classroom and workplace;
  • prepare students for further education or employment with coordinated academic and career studies; and
  • provide students with opportunities to learn and train under skilled professionals.
  • Highlights include:

    Umatilla High School's Academy of Public Service works in conjunction with the St. John's River Water Management District on the Emeralda Marsh reclamation project. Students in the Academy apply the academic skills learned in the classroom to real life work on the marsh.
