In 1997, North Lake Education Center and South Lake Education Center joined to form Griffin Middle School, an alternative education school for students at risk of dropping out. The philosophy of Griffin Middle School is to implement a hands-on, relevant curriculum through integrated academic and vocational courses. Students at Griffin Middle School participate in horticulture, agriculture, food services, computer/ journalism, yearbook and art/technology classes.
Griffin Middle School received an implementation grant for the 1996-97 school year. Funding supplied an enhanced career center, career-oriented field trips, supplies and equipment for entrepreneurial projects, and professional development for school educators.
